Nicaraguan Ambassador to Iran Mario Barquero Baltodano blasted the western powers for pursuing a double-standard approach towards terrorism, saying that these powers are only seeking to materialize their interests through imposing their views on other states."We must reject the double standards," Baltodano said on the sidelines of the International Conference on the Global Fight against Terrorism in Tehran today."The international community should sit down and think about terrorism because it affects everyone," he added.

The envoy said the international community should "define terrorism because we cannot say those who are fighting for national liberation are terrorists". He hailed Tehran's initiative in holding the conference, and said, "It is one of the most important events I have seen in recent years in Iran." "We have to stand together and try to bring real peace and development to our countries," the diplomat concluded.The two-day International Conference on Global Fight against Terrorism officially started work here in Tehran yesterday with scores of high-ranking officials and international figures in attendance.

The event has brought together senior officials from at least 60 countries, and representatives from several international organizations, including the UN. Presidents of Sudan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Iraq as well as senior dignitaries and officials from different world states and world bodies have attended the conference.The event, arranged under the slogan of "A World Without Terrorism", is aimed at increasing international convergence and coordination in fighting terrorism.
