Journalists from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Guatemala, Paraguay and Venezuela are meeting here to plan the creation of the Latin American Union of News Agencies (ULAN) which will provide a regional perspective for the global news agenda.Issues such as organisational structure, statutes and operations of ULAN are currently being discussed here by the directors of nine news agencies in a two day meeting here.

Telam (Argentina), ABI (Bolivia), Agencia Brasil, Prensa Latina (based in Cuba) Andes (Ecuador), AGN (Guatemala), Notimex (Mexico), IP (Paraguay) and AVN (Venezuela) the host country are the news agencies that have decided to plan details of the new regional agency.The news agencies have agreed to create a regional organisation to integrate news content, strengthen their information systems, coordinate coverage and exchange experiences.

The representatives of the agencies also met Venezuelan Communication and Information Minister Andres Izarra.AVN director Freddy Fernandez said that the new associaton will confront the negative, anti-Latin American campaigns carried out by information monopolies in the United States and Europe.Prensa Latina president Luis Enrique Gonzalez highlighted the importance of creating a news organisation as countries in the region are taking solid steps to strengthen their integration movement.
