Fugitive From Venezuelan Justice is an Opposition Spokesman http://venezuela-us.org/2012/04/20/fugitive-from-venezuelan-justice-is-an-opposition-spokesman/ Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro said Thursday that the former judge that was accused of corruption and is now fleeing justice in Venezuela, Eladio Aponte Aponte, “has become the new spokesperson and top representative of the Venezuelan opposition from Florida.”The Minister spoke about the media attention received by the man, particularly in right-wing outlets, “newspapers that are giving him headlines, as though he were an honorable gentleman with proof in his hands… such is the morality of these media, print and television, of the right-wing that is constantly conspiring against the stability of the country.”He indicated that Aponte Aponte’s claims against Venezuelan institutions are supported by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), which he said is a political actor rather than an organization dedicated to stemming the tide of drug trafficking.“They [the DEA] continue to become a sanctuary for drug traffickers, the corrupt, traitors, terrorists, harboring characters like Posada Carriles… as if these people were great democrats,” Maduro said. The minister explained that the former judge was the subject of an investigation by State institutions after reports emerged about his links to mafias, saying “in Venezuela nobody from drug trafficking mafias is privileged or protected,” and “this demonstrates that laws do work in this country.”Maduro spoke at the Plaza Bolívar in downtown Caracas during celebrations for the 202nd anniversary of Venezuela’s call for independence on April 19, 1810.
