To escape from Venezuela
Former magistrate sought collaboration of fugitive banker in Miami
Caracas, 28 Abr. AVN.- Former magistrate Eladio Aponte Aponte requested the collaboration of Eligio Cedeno, Venezuelan banker fugitive from justice who lives in Miami, United States, so as to escape from justice as he did short time ago.
"I am writing to you because only you can help me in such unlucky moments, I ask for your greatest collaboration so that I may go out of Venezuela," reads a fax sent by Aponte to Cedeno last April 11th. it was disclosed on April 27th by Venezuelan Interior Relations and Justice Minister Tareck El Aissami through his Twitter account.
Aponte was removed from office by the National Assembly on March 20, after an investigation revealed his ties with alleged drug dealer Walid Makled. He did not attend an audience before the legislative body and fled to the United States, where he is now protected by the DEA.
Furthermore, he offered an interview last April 18 to SOI (Sistema de Opinión Interactiva), television station founded by Cedeno in Miami.
Since 2005, Cedeno stands indicted in Venezuela and is wanted for allegedly stealing funds from account holders, fraudulently obtaining U.S. dollars from Venezuela's foreign currency administrative agency and aggravated contraband.
In December 2009, judge Maria Lourdes Afiuni -currently imprisoned- released Cedeno from prison without the presence of representatives of the Public Ministry. Thus, the banker fled from Venezuela in 2009 to then receive asylum on behalf of the United States Government I May 2011.
