TEHRAN (FNA)- The Canadian media on Saturday started showing a harsh reaction to Ottawa's decision on severing ties with Iran in the interest of Israel with Mike Blanchfield saying in an editorial in Montreal Gazette that the move by the Canadian government is "pathetic" and an "act of desperation".The following is Blanchfield's editorial in Montreal Gazette.Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird suddenly announced yesterday that Canada is severing diplomatic ties with Iran and closing its embassy in Tehran. With the Syrian military pounding the US/Canadian - backed mercenaries who have invaded their country, the NAM meeting in Tehran with 120 nations denouncing the imperialist war on the people of Syria and threats against Iran and with China and Russia repudiating the imperial agenda in the region, Canada's decision is not only transparent; it's also pathetic. The Canadian press states, "Canada's relations with Iran have been iffy since the 1979 Islamic Revolution." Who are they trying to kid?For years Canada has claimed that Iran was a "sponsor of terrorism," a member of the "Axis of Evil" and an "existential threat" to Israel. Baird's statement that "Canada views the government of Iran as the most significant threat to global peace and security in the world today" couldn't have been better scripted by Benjamin Netanyahu himself. Perhaps it was.Rhetorical: Why this decision now and not before? In another act of aggression against Iran in July, 2012 Canadian banks shut down personal accounts of Iranian Canadians without notice or explanation. In other words, they robbed these people of their deposits and life savings to punish Iran. As the Israeli-US-Canadian-European war on Syria and sanctions and threats against Iran begin to unravel, Canada's decision has every appearance of desperation ... far too little and much too late.Better that Iran's diplomats are out of Canada where they were vulnerable to false accusations and physical or economic violence. Better that Iran is rid of the Canadian Embassy spies inside their country, supporting Israel's assassination of scientists and trying to foment civil unrest among the Iranian people.
