President Chavez has announced the setting up of a State import-export company to displace the hegemony of capitalist companies.The company is part of a government plan to take on capitalism in key areas such as distribution.The government has nationalized several hyper-stores and started the major Socialist food distribution company (Comerso) to loosen capitalist stranglehold on the sector.

The President said the government had been working on the import-export idea for several months and it had become a priority to take control over the delicate import-export sector, which has a decisive effect on the economy. Chavez blamed the April 5.2% increase in inflation on capitalist speculation against Venezuela comparing striking differences of prices of the same products in other Latin American countries.

The President warned people speculating with dollars that the State will be taking action against them and they "will receive their medicine."The inflation rate in Venezuela, Chavez countered, does not obey logics in the economic system but rather speculation and political directives.

The struggle against bourgeoisie control of the economy, Chavez declared, will continue and the government will not allow itself to be encircled.State security agencies and State entities have been ordered to be on permanent alert and to apply the law as in the case of beef suppliers and butchers arrested for speculating with prices and supply.Chavez quipped that every time there is a wage increase, the bourgeoisie hike prices and services.
