Mohammad ElBaradei on Monday lambasted the US and European powers of actively sabotaging his mediation efforts during his tenure as head of the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to end the dispute over Iran's nuclear program.Talking to the weekly news magazine Der Spiegel, ElBaradei revealed that the Americans and Europeans withheld important papers and information from him amid his attempts to strictly stick to the facts. He made clear that the US and Europe were not pursuing a compromise with Tehran on its nuclear program but were eyeing a regime change.

ElBaradei said the West was using any available means to achieve that objective.  The ex-director of the UN nuclear watchdog stressed the West had never even tried to treat Iran as an equal during the nuclear negotations.  ElBaradei reiterated the Iranian nuclear issue was still solvable. He has repeatedly stressed the need for diplomacy to resolve the row over Iran's nuclear program rather than issuing military and sanction threats.
