A new bill regulating press operations in Tunisia has angered many journalists who see it as a return to an era of oppression. The proposed law aims to bring order to a sector that some claim got out of hand after the revolution. Penal rules that would make journalists face their responsibilities must be incorporated" into the new law, according to drafting committee chief Ridha Jnaih. The legislation is being prepared by the media and audio-visual communication committee, a sub-section of the High Commission for the Realisation of Revolutionary Goals, Political Reforms and Democratic Transition. The measure features several sections allowing the imprisonment of journalists; something that the Tunisian media circles have rejected.
