Britain's Charge d’affaires to Tehran Jane Marriott was summoned to Foreign Ministry Thursday over baseless remarks of British Foreign Secretary William Hague on Iran.Tehran, June 9, IRNA – Britain's Charge d’affaires to Tehran Jane Marriott was summoned to Foreign Ministry Thursday over baseless remarks of British Foreign Secretary William Hague on Iran. Officials of the Iranian Foreign Ministry voiced Tehran’s “strong protest” against Hague’s comments on Iran’s alleged intervention in domestic affairs of and latest developments in Syria. 

“Remarks of the British foreign secretary was completely baseless and were made upon a series of lies,” an official at the Foreign Ministry in charge of West European affairs told IRNA. He added that London “is not qualified to make such comments” as it was involved in “a series of destructive measures” 

in regional developments, particularly by conducting military training courses in certain regional countries to suppress people’s protests. The official said Marriott was also informed of Tehran’s strong criticism over London’s intervening moves in Iran’s internal affairs as well as its double standard policies regarding regional developments. The British diplomat said, for her part, that she would convey Iran’s protest to British authorities.
