Egypt resumes gas supply to Israel http://www.rebelnews.org/business/middle-east/796729-egypt-resumes-gas-supply-to-israel
Egypt has resumed pumping natural gas to Israel after a cut-off which came due to an explosion in Sinai gas pipeline earlier in February, officials say. The gas shipment which would be less than normal in the beginning has been resumed to East Mediterranean Gas Company (EMG) and subsequently to EMG's Israeli customers, according to Ampal-American Israel Corporation. “The initial quantities of gas supplied to EMG are less than the contractual quantities and will ramp up on a daily basis to reach full contractual quantities," the corporation said in a statement. "The delay is for technical reasons because it would be dangerous to suddenly revert to the full amount without verifying that the pipeline is working normally," said the statement. The cut-off came after an explosion hit the gas pipeline in the northern Sinai city of El Arish earlier in February. The gas supply to Israel, however, was delayed over a hold-up in repair work on a GASCO pipeline. Egypt supplies around 40% of Israel's gas consumption.
