"WHO WAS JAWAHER ABU RAHMAH? Jawaher Abu Rahmah was a 36-year-old Palestinian from the town of Bil’in in the occupied West Bank. Dedicated to her family and friends, Jawaher was unmarried and worked with local children and the elderly. Her family is actively involved in the non-violent struggle against land confiscations being carried out by Israel for the construction of its separation wall on land belonging to the residents of Bil’in. As it has elsewhere across the West Bank, the wall that Israel is building has had a devastating impact on the people of Bil’in, cutting them off from their farmlands and grazing pastures, restricting their movement and their access to employment, education and health care. In April 2010, Jawaher’s brother, Bassem Abu Rahmah, was killed during a peaceful protest after he was hit in the chest by a high-velocity tear gas canister fired from close range by Israeli soldiers."
