Somalia has received the first shipment of humanitarian aid sent by the Iranian Red Crescent Society, an IRCS official has announced.“The first ship carrying the Iranian Red Crescent Society’s humanitarian relief, which was sent to Somalia with the aim of helping this country’s deprived people, has arrived in Mogadishu harbor,” Mohammad Abbasi told IRNA on Wednesday. The shipment contained tents and large amounts of food and medicine, and was distributed among displaced women and children who have been accommodated in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, he said. He went on to say that the shipment was delivered to the Somali government in a ceremony which Somali Minister for Women and Family Affairs Maryam Qasim Ahmed attended. Qasim Ahmed thanked Iran for providing relief to Somali people, the Iranian official said. Abbasi added that thousands of women and children have been displaced by the fighting in Somalia and are in urgent need of assistance.
