A senior Iranian legislator said that the recent allegation about the operation of a spy cell in Kuwait with links to Iran is a scenario led by the US to justify suppression of popular uprisings in the region. "Regarding the current popular movements in Muslim countries and the Persian Gulf littoral states, including Bahrain, the westerners are trying to persuade regional governments that Iran is the factor behind the unrests and that such protests are not popular," member of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said. He added that such "unprincipled" claims and attitude are part of a US scenario which is being implemented by Kuwait. The Iranian Foreign Ministry had earlier said that such allegation by a Kuwaiti court were totally baseless and termed it an irresponsible move.
