The leader of Lebanon's Islamic Tawheed Movement has revealed photos of checks addressed to senior figures closely tied to Caretaker Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri. The photos, uncovered by Wiam Wahhab, show that one of the checks worth $300,000 has been written in order of Lebanese lawmaker Jamal Jarrah, a Press TV correspondent reported on Saturday. The check is signed by Saudi Prince Turki bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud.
A similar check has been written out for former Lebanese MP Mohammed Abdul Hamid Beydoun, another politician close to Hariri. Wahhab disclosed yet another check, worth $400,000 dollars, drawn up for Jamal Khaddam, the son of former Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam. The same Saudi prince has signed the check. The leader of the Islamic Lebanese party said that demonstrations in Syria are also being organized by forces paid by a number of Saudi officials.
The revelations come after Lebanese security forces intercepted two vehicles carrying weapons and ammunitions to Syria earlier in April. Syrian authorities blame armed groups and foreign elements for an ongoing surge of unrests in the country, leading to the killing of tens of security guards and demonstrators. The tension comes despite Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's recent introduction of a new package of reforms, which he said would meet the demands of the protesters. Assad has also granted amnesty for all those detained during the protests, aside from those that Damascus says have committed criminal acts against the homeland and its citizens.

Do you think you will ever be able to go back to Syria?Yes, I will be back. And it’s not in the distant future that I’ll be back. What is the actual picture you have of the way things will develop in the next few months. When the scenario starts to materialize all the people are going to see it. [But] if there is a big political agenda it is not feasible to make it public in the press.
From interview with Asharq Al-Awsat as translated by al-Jazeera.net: Khaddam said that he was rallying Syrian opposition parties to "create the right atmosphere for the Syrian people to topple the regime."“This regime cannot be reformed. The only alternative is to overthrow it.”
