Energy experts warn of rapid depletion of the remaining natural gas under the Earth’s crust.According to energy specialists based on a latest international study on the amount of remaining natural gas around the world, major industrialized countries in Europe and America have just over a decade of their own natural gas supplies remaining.The United States which is the world’s largest oil and gas consumer would have only 12 years of its own natural gas supplies left at current rate of consumption. Likewise, for Europe there’s only a 15-year supply of natural gas remaining. Most Europeans use natural gas to heat up their homes during the cold winter seasons. On the hand, countries like Russia, Iran, Qatar and Central Asia with large reserves of natural gas would have over a century of natural gas reserves. In the case of Russia, the biggest supplier of gas to Europe the supply should last for another 150 years at the current rate of production which also applies for Iran.The Middle Eastern country Iran currently holds more than 150 billion barrels of proven oil reserves and 1045.7×10^12 cu ft (29610 km3) or about 15.8% of world's total natural gas reserves. The nations with the world's three biggest reserves of natural gas – Russia, Iran, and Qatar – are also considering forming a "gas OPEC," an organization modeled after the oil cartel.
