Bolivia generated more than 485,500 new jobs between 2006 and 2010, according to data published by the Bolivian Ministry of Economy and Public Finances Friday, highlighting the contribution of the constructive activity in this South American country. This sector is one of the main fosterers in the Bolivian national economy, because of its capacity to employ 500,000 direct workers and more than a million indirect workers, said Rolando Shrupp, president of the Construction Chamber of the city of Santa Cruz, who mentioned data from the National Statistics Institute.Shrupp said the contribution of construction to the Bolivian Gross Domestic Product in 2010 was over 580 million dollars with a multiplying effect on the Bolivian patrimony.Construction is among the three sectors generating the biggest amount of jobs in Bolivia, together with mining and agriculture.Data from the 2010 Memory of the Bolivian Economy are showing that the unemployment rate decreased from 9.3 percent in 2004 to 5.7 in 2010, the lowest in the history of Bolivia, said Oscar Calle, president of the National Chamber of Commerce. The authorities said this index will lower down to 4 percent in December, because of the strong and constant public investment this year. This year, that investment reached 2.66 million dollars, which permits to improve infrastructure, industrialize hydrocarbons, generate more energy and guarantee food security, public health and education.
