That is our shield against barbarism, against the third fleet or the fourth (...) That is our greatest warrant provided by the Providence and tee the continuity of our rising republics, our South American independence, Chavez stressed at the end of a meeting with the Secretary General of UNASUR, Emma Mejia, in the Miraflores Presidential Palace, in Caracas, Venezuela. President Chavez labeled the events in Libya as "something sinister. Something that could be compared with the genocide occurred in here against our indigenous people when Spaniards arrived [500 years ago]. The thing is that nowadays is even worst because they [colonialists] have planes and bombs. A scientific-technical advance at barbarism's disposal. I would have never imagined to see something like this, but we are seeing it and with people even applauding it."
