Relatives of the victims from Alfredo Stroessner''s dictatorship (1954-1989) took to the streets and demanded punishment for the oppressors of that period and compliance with laws granting compensation to their descendants.The protesters arrived at the Pantheon of Heroes in the center of the capital carrying posters proclaiming their demands to the government alonig with pictures of some of the missing and murdered during the 35 years of the U.S. supported regime.Santiago Rolon, President of the National Movement of Victims of the Dictatorship told Prensa Latina that the government of Federico Franco, which he called a coup government, has failed to comply with legal resolutions to deliver the established economic benefits to the descendants of the victims."We are 20,000 people affected by the repression of that tyranny which, once again, is violating our human rights by not even paying the aid properly and timely, that was granted in two laws passed for that purpose," he said.He recalled that the government of the removed President Fernando Lugo had been dealing with the families, but after Franco came to power, the compliance failures began, without taking into consideration the situation of many families.In support of that charge, the demonstration was accompanied by leaders from the Human Rights Coordinating Committee, which supported the demands from the victims' families for an end to impunity for those involved in the repression.The government has an obligation to judge the many perpetrators of crimes and tortures of that dark period, if it does not want to be an accomplice, said the Committee.
