[[[[[[[(CHRISTIAN) Marada Movement leader MP Suleiman Franjieh said that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was on a winning streak with his battle against rebels.“I believe that Assad did not lose since the United States pushed for a strike and then made a U-turn, and the Arabs have been saying that he is going to fall, but all cards are still in his hands,” Franjieh said]]]]]] on Tuesday evening in an interview with OTV television[[[[“I am in constant contact with Assad and his morale is high… I spoke to him today and [his] nerves constitute two-thirds of the battle.”]]]]The Marada Movement leader also criticized Lebanon’s “Christian” media outlets for their coverage of the latest developments in the Christian Syrian town of Maalula. “I am saddened to see that the Christian media in Lebanon has become a tool for a certain sectarian project and they have forgotten their fundamental mission.” Last week, Syrian rebels, including jihadists linked to Al-Qaeda, took control of the historic Christian town of Maalula, north of Damascus, a watchdog and a resident said. Maalula is home to around 5,000 residents and is of strategic importance for the rebels, who are trying to tighten their grip around the capital Damascus, adding a northern post to existing bases in the south and west of the city.
