Wasserman Schultz justifies Syria attack: ‘As a Jew … never again has to mean something’
“Well, I feel confident that our colleagues, my colleagues both on the Republican side of the aisle as well as the Democratic side of the aisle are not going to jeopardize the credibility of the United States,” Mrs. Wasserman Schultz said.“For me as a mother, to see that searing image of babies lined up, murdered by their own government, innocent children,” she continued. “I mean, as a Jew, Wolf, I have to tell you, as a member of Congress who represents one of the largest Holocaust survivor populations in the country, to me, the concept of never again, has to mean something. And the United States, morally, cannot turn the other cheek. Too many leaders of ours have regretted that decision.”House leaders from both side of the aisle said Tuesday they’ll back President Obama’s plan for military strikes against Assad.“This is something that the United States and the country needs to do. I’m going to support the president’s call for action, and I believe my colleagues should support this call for action,” House Speaker John Boehner told reporters. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor also announced his support for strikes.House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi agreed, saying Assad’s suspected use of sarin gas against his own people is “behavior outside the circle of civilized human behavior, and we must respond.”
[ed notes:backround... Cheerleader for Israel Most politicians emanating from Florida are notorious Israel Firsters, and DWS is no exception. Philip Weiss, a commentator on Israeli and American politics, observes about DWS:
... Netanyahu, lets remind ourselves, this is a thug -- I find him to be a thug, in his personal demeanor -- who got 29 standing ovations from the American Congress a year ago. A man who gets 29 standing ovations from the Congress is a pretty good speaker -- which he is; he is demagogic as a speaker -- but he also has a ton of political power in our country.
[[[[[[Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, was leading those standing ovations. She was jumping up and waving her arms, to tell everyone to jump up to give him a standing ovation. And that is the problem, again that I get to so often, here you have a liberal -- Debbie Wasserman Schultz on any number of issues in our country; a leading liberal -- and she is supporting a right-wing guy who has completely right-wing policies towards Palestinians.[2]]]]]] http://antiwar.com/radio/2012/05/14/philip-weiss-13/
