According to the IRNA correspondent in New York, Mohammad Khaza’ie who was speaking at the Annual Conference of the UN Disarmament Commission while elaborating on Iran’s stands regarding the important regional and international developments, reiterated, “Under such conditions that the nuclear program of a non-NPT member (Israel) is threatening the regional and international peace and security so seriously, in order to encounter this problem effectively Iran proposed establishing a nuclear-weapons-free zone in the year 1974.” Khaza’ie reiterated, “Yet, efforts aimed at establishing such as region have been unsuccessful due to that regime’s regarding from joining the NPT, and as a result its nuclear facilities, too, have not been under the supervision of the IAEA.
The Iranian envoy referring to the disarmament commission’s efforts during its lifetime, including devising orders, issuing suggestions, preparing guidelines etc, said , “Without intending to belittle the efforts made by this esteemed commission, it is very unfortunate that all such moves have still not led to disarmament.” Khaza’ie said that sustainable security for the entire world nations can only be achieved resorting to the power of sound logic and wisdom, and refraining from resorting to military force. He criticized the owners of nuclear weapons for imposing a high threat against the world peace and security and for not heeding their international and legal commitments in terms of gradual annihilation of such weapons.”
He added, “The only way to save the world from the nuclear threat is total and full annihilation of the entire nuclear weapons.” He meanwhile stressed that Iran is determined to take full advantage of its rights to have peaceful nuclear activities, ruling out the claims made by certain countries against Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program. The Iranian ambassador expressed surprise that such claims are made by such countries that illegally possess nuclear weapons and have been for such a long period refrained from heeding their responsibilities and annihilating them.
