The Yemeni people demanding fundamental reform will be suckered into accepting the idea that things remain more or less the same.Political analyst says Washington’s Egypt-like solution to remove Ali Abdullah Saleh from power with a friendly military junta is just a smokescreen aimed at thwarting people’s demands for real constitutional changes in Yemen.Senior analyst and editor of the Executive Intelligence Review (EIR), Jeff Steinberg in an interview with Iran’s Press TV said he wondered if people of Yemen could accept artificial face-saving changes instead of real constitutional democracy.

‘The Yemeni people demanding fundamental reform will be suckered into accepting the idea that things remain more or less the same, but that Saleh is simply removed from the scene,’ Steinberg said, adding that he was unsure whether Saleh’s removal would solve anything except another round of theatrical changes to keep the US-backed military establishment intact.‘Saleh replacement was to minimize the actual reform and hold the general momentum of these revolutions that are going on throughout the Arab world,’ Steinberg stressed.
