Islam Times reports that Saudi Arabian teachers gathered in the streets of Ha’il, located in northern Saudi Arabia. They demanded an increase in job security and pay. Similar protests were seen in the previous week when over 250 unemployed university graduates protested in Riyad, the nation’s capital. The Riyad protestors demanded and increase of job oppurtunities in the Persian Gulf countries.Saudi Arabian teachers have conducted many protests over the past months demanding an increase in job security and pay.

Last August, they met with officials of the education ministry and were promised that the situation would get better. But, no measures have been taken to better the conditions that the teachers are facing. Saudi Arabia prohibits any form of public gathering or protest. But, that has not stopped the Saudi Arabian citizens from conducting them over the past months in various places.

The protests have mainly been against the actions of the government and their policies. Last Friday, the people of Riyad held a protest in frotn of the internal ministry demanding that Saudi Arabian officials free the ‘political prisoners who have been forgotten’. These prisoners were arrested for supporting reform.  The protestors state that these prisoners have been behind bars for 16 years. Their imprisonment is unjust and they have not been given a trial to defend themselves.
