Acquittal of Honduran Putschits Called Unfair http://www.insidecostarica.com/dailynews/2011/october/21/centralamerica111012101.htm
Former Honduran President Manuel Zelaya on Thursday described as unfair the acquittal of six ex high-ranking military commanders who were tried for expelling him to Costa Rica during the 2009 coup d'etat. The ruling by the Supreme Court was supported by 12 votes in favor and three against those who assaulted Zelaya's residence at midnight and instead of taking him to court, as it was ordered, they force him to exile in Costa Rica.
With the acquittal, the court favored the aspirations of retired General Romeo Vazquez, one of those involved in the coup, to run for president. The other ex high-ranking military commanders who were acquitted are Luis Prince, Venancio Cervantes, Miguel García, Juan Pablo Rodriguez and Carlos Cuéllar. The former president returned to Honduras on May 28, 2011, and since then, he has worked with the National Popular Resistance Front, which recently founded the Free Party (Partido Libre), for the 2013 elections.
