The Nicaraguan government's refusal to accept U.S. interference in the upcoming presidential elections receives on Thursday a wide prominence in the national news media.The official position was announced by Foreign Minister Samuel Santos, who denied the request of the U.S. government to accredit its embassy officials here as election observers.The Foreign Minister recalled that the Vienna Convention provides that diplomats may not interfere in internal affairs of the country where they are present.
The U.S. embassy requested on September 12 to the Foreign Ministry to be registered as an election observer, to enjoy access to polling stations, among other guarantees.However, the Supreme Electoral Council president Roberto Rivas, considered the request out of place
