Nicaraguans Demand Justice for The Cuban Five http://www.insidecostarica.com/dailynews/2011/october/09/centralamerica11100902.htm

The Association of Friendship Cuba-Nicaragua will hold another gathering of solidarity to demand justice for five anti-terrorist Cuban fighters unfairly held in US prisons and protest the US blockade against Cuba.Head of the organization Dennis Deering told Prensa Latina that the ghathering is expected to be attended by members of different organizations close to the Cuban Revolution.

"It will be a way to say that we will continue the struggle for the final release of Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez," he explained. The Cuban Five, as they are known worldwide, were detained on September 12, 1998 in US territory for warning their country of terrorist plans hatched under White House protection. At dawn on October 7, Rene was released, but US justice has banned him from returning home, so we are going to continue struggling for The Cuban Five, said Deering.

"Neither will we fail to denounce that the US government continues ignoring UN resolutions supported by the international community by maintaining its economic, financial, commercial blockade on the Cuba," he said.He said that most Nicaraguans are very grateful to the Cuban people: in 1979, when an earthquake rocked Managua, leaving thousands of wounded and dead, we got CubaâÖs unconditional assistance, though relations with the Somoza dictatorship had been broken."After the triumph of the Sandinista popular revolution in 1979, more than 22,000 had the opportunity to study in Cuba; I am one of them," recalled Deering.
