VENEZUELA SEIZES AND DESTROYS ARMS TO REDUCE CRIME http://www.namnewsnetwork.org/v2/read.php?id=175649  Venezuela has seized and destroyed more than 117,000 weapons in the country.This is one of the priorities of the government's operation to disarm criminal gangs and build a safer society and to reduce crime, Brig Gen Gerardo Velazquez, head of the Directorate of Arms and Explosives (DAEX) said.The measure follows the implementation of the most important goal of the government's Bicentennial Security Operation which also promotes the creation of cultural, sports and spaces for a healthy way of life.He said 1,840 firearms have been destroyed so far this year in the state of Bolivar, as part of a national strategy to fight against crime.Velazquez disclosed the information in a ceremony to destroy the seized weapons in the town of San Felix in Bolivar.He said that following the seizure of the weapons, the crime rate in this southeastern Venezuelan state fell 20 percent.
