Montreal’s Jewish Mayor arrested on fraud - Today, Montreal’s Mayor Michael Applebaum, 50, along with two other Jewish officials was arrested by the province’s anti-corruption squad.The Mayor faces 14 charges of corruption, fraud and conspiracy involving several real state deals during 2006-2011. Applebaum was arrested at his home in Notre-Dame-Grace, a little Jewish state in Montreal.The other two arrested, include Saulie Zajdel, a Jewish politician, who worked in a ministrial office for Israel-Firster Stephen Harper’s federal government. He is charged with five counts of corruption, fraud and money-laundering – and Jean Yves Bisson, a former director of permits who worked in Applebaum’s west end borough. He is charged with four counts of criminal behavior.Michael Applebaum, the first Jewish Mayor of Montreal has already declared that he will not run in the upcoming municipal election in November 2013. He occupied Mayor office on November 16, 2012. He is a frequent visitor to City’s Holocaust Museum.Applebaum is one of the major players in Canada’s Israel Lobby. The city councillors voted kosher Applebaum to replace Gerald Tremblay, City Mayor, who resigned in a corruption scandal that likned him to graft and organized crime. In April 2013, Mayor Michael Applebaum, lead 65th year of creation of the Zionist entity at Phillips Square - along with several other Israel-Firsters, like MPs Irwin Cotler and Marc Garneau – and of course Israeli consul-general Joel Lion. Applebaum told reporters he is proud to come to the rally every year. “It brings the community together to celebrate a strong and innovative country – and a model when it comes to democracy,” he said.Interestingly, an Israeli citizen on run, Roi Tov, in a letter to ADL, called Israel a Discriminative Democracy, while veteran Israeli columnist, Gideon Levy, called the Zionist entity Half Democracy.
