Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Governor Mahmoud Bahmani says any future changes in the management of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will not affect the Islamic Republic's fiscal policies. “Since the bank's (IMF) officials did not have good relations with our country from the very beginning, changes among them will have no impact on our monetary policies,” ISNA quoted Bahmani as saying at a conference in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Tuesday. 

The Iranian official's remarks come after the arrest of IMF Director General Dominique Strauss-Kahn in the US on May 14 on charges of sexually assaulting a hotel maid in New York. Strauss-Kahn is a former economics professor and was being touted as a prospective candidate for France's Socialist Party in the challenge against incumbent President Nicolas Sarkozy in the April 2012 French presidential election. 

Bahmani further pointed to the negative consequences of the global financial crisis in recent years, saying that Iran's banking system has been among the least affected due to its limited ties with organizations such as the IMF.The CBI chief also noted that Strauss-Kahn's detention is “definitely a political issue,” aimed at removing him from the position.The IMF is an intergovernmental organization that oversees the global financial system through the macroeconomic policies of its member countries.
