Perched on the walls of the Old City (Jerusalem), two Israeli border police squint through military binoculars. I follow their gaze to Silwan (or the City of David depending on your politics), a Palestinian village that sprawls alongside the Old City in occupied East Jerusalem, almost directly across from the Temple Mount and Dome of the Rock. I see the focus of their attention: a small house, situated next to the Israeli settlement of Beit Yonatan in an area touted for development by the militant extreme-right Israeli settler organisation Elad. 

The road has been widened for the arrival of bulldozers. They are there yet, but may come today, tomorrow or perhaps next year. But the simple, brutal fact is that this house will not survive. It will not escape the Caterpillar blade. Its position assures it. Or perhaps it is more accurate to say it is the position of the respective settlements that commits this house to one day be rubble.
